Performance Coaching
Coaching Philosophy
I believe all humans will experience stress, suffering, uncertainty, and ultimately death. I also believe many of our issues come from how we face these inevitable aspects of being human. As early as childhood we begin learning how to survive in this world. We learn patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that are meant to protect us, and perhaps do so for a period of time, but at some point become ineffective or even destructive. These patterns inhibit our ability to experience a life of meaning, connection, growth, and peace.
Sports and high performance environments tend to reveal these patterns more quickly and transparently than any other.
My coaching and therapeutic philosophies are deeply intertwined because at their core they are psychological and human philosophies. Similar to good therapy, good coaching is rooted in a trusting relationship where you can experience safety. Not safety in the sense of feeling comfortable, safety in the sense of being so secure in yourself that you have the confidence to set big goals, take risks, care deeply about the process, view failures as learning opportunities, and so much more.
In my role as a coach, I have helped youth and adult athletes go from novices to competing in National Championships and achieving lofty personal goals. More importantly, I have helped develop athletes into physically, mentally, and emotionally resilient humans while maintaining a love for the process and the sport. My programs have always been driven by a set of core values which I hope to instill in any athlete I work with:
Care deeply. Be curious. Act with courage. Build connections. Fully commit.
